About Lisa

Who is Lisa Hudgins?

As a mother, an educator, and a business owner, Lisa is uniquely positioned to leverage her knowledge and experience as a school board member. As an at-home-mother to her three children, Lisa volunteered in the schools and the community, while managing her family's investment properties. Once her children entered high school, Lisa decided to return to VCU’s School of Education, where she earned her Masters of Teaching, transitioning into the high school English classroom the year her oldest child graduated.

Throughout her nine years as an educator, Lisa taught everything from 9th grade English to IB English 12. Lisa’s love for both her students and the subject she taught is evident in her three-time recognition as Teacher of the Year, including twice as the IB Teacher of the Year for Midlothian High School.

In 2022, Lisa retired from teaching to channel her passion for students into writing a book on education. She also joined her husband in managing their family business.

Lisa and her husband, Mark, have a blended family of seven.

"As an educator and mother, I recognize the power of uniting those who care most about our students, and harnessing their unique areas of expertise. Parents are the expert on their child, and teachers are experts in their field.

By working together, we can tackle the difficult issues that impede success, like COVID learning loss and associated behavioral issues.

Together we can give our children the education they need and deserve."
